Last night the JV Mustangs traveled to Stockdale to battle the Brahmas. It was a very physical game from start to finish. The Mustangs took the opening kickoff and marched it down the field in 12 plays ending with a 7 yard yard touchdown run by Luis Buentello. AZ Zapata would punch in the 2 point conversion to give Natalia a 8-0 lead with 4:27 remaining in the 1st quarter. It did not take long for the Brahmas to respond. On their first play from scrimmage, the Stockdale running back took the hand off and raced 75 yards to the end zone. The 2 point conversion was no good and the Mustangs held on to an 8-6 lead with 4:14 remaining in the 1st quarter. The Mustangs offense once again went to work and put together a 6 minute drive that resulted in an AZ Zapata 4 yard TD run. Luis Buentello punched in the 2 point conversion to give the Mustangs a 16-6 lead with 8:11 remaining in the 2nd quarter. After giving up a TD on their first defensive play of the game, the Mustangs defense would come to play the rest of the night. The Brahmas offense had trouble getting things going as the defensive line began to get in the backfield play after play. After a great defensive stand, the Mustangs offense took over and ran the clock out in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, both defenses held their own. The only score in the 2nd half would come with 3:01 remaining in the 4th quarter. AZ Zapata would run it in from 1 yard out. The 2 point conversion failed but the Mustangs were in front by a score of 22-6. The Brahmas took over down 2 scores but were not able to score as time would run out. The Mustangs improve to 2-1 on the season. Their next game will be on Thursday at home against the Brahmas for the 2nd time in 2 weeks.
